We are delighted to announce that Katherine Whitton has been awarded the £200 top up for producing the most outstanding work as a result of winning one of the £125 prizes last year.
Katherine was a first year BA (Hons) Textiles student at NUCA who used drawings and photographs of architecture in Venice and Krakow to inspire ideas for her first introduction to weaving.

Katherine was buzzing with ideas, with good understanding of textile structures and intended using the award to visit Moorish architecture in Spain, to develop her knowledge of woven textiles further. She was pleased to have won the award as it has made her feel more confident about her work as well as giving her the means to develop it further.
The prize helped her to fund a trip to London to visit interior design showrooms, purchase fabrics and yarns and attend a drawing course in Spain. Now in her second year, Katherine had a placement at Zandra Rhodes and recently won a NUCA enterprise award to help her develop her ideas for personalised designed lengths of fabric.

Katherine intends to use the £200 to help fund a further placement at another drawing course in Spain and materials for her final year projects.
The judging panel were unanimous in their choice of Katherine, they were bowled over by her enthusiasm, her range of ideas and techniques as well as the development of her knowledge, understanding and business acumen.

Angela Houston served on the C&TA committee for many years. Amongst her many interests Angela had a passionate love of nature, using her knowledge of plants to dye the materials and garments which as an accomplished spinner, weaver and knitter, she had created over the years. |
