Brereton Hangings talk by Carolyn Fergusson
These bed hangings were begun in 1801 by Magaretta Brereton of Brinton Hall, Norfolk when her son died aged 14. Using fashionable chintz, she added her own fresh patterns and colours. The contents of the bedroom for which they were made were donated to NMAS in 1929. There are 160 items in all. It is said that this unique piece of needlework reatored her to health.
