Join our Coronaquilt campaign!
Many of us may be staying at home because of the spread of Coronavirus. Events have been cancelled and we miss our get-togethers – so the C&TA have decided to launch a project to keep us all in touch.
We are inviting members, supporters, friends and family to join us in making a cheering quilt… a “Coronaquilt”. Our first completed square (left) is from Barbara Ayers, who used an inspiring quotation from St Paul's Epistles to the Philippians.
The idea is to take a square of material 9 inches square, leaving one inch all round for seams and sewing together (making a 7 inch square area for the design).
The design is up to you – it could be a message such as ‘Stay happy’, ‘Keep calm and carry on’ or a picture of your favourite thing, a happy memory, or a beautiful flower, And it does NOT have to be a perfect example of needlework: it’s for fun!
You can use any technique - stitching, patchwork, applique, or a mixture of any style. Our chairman, Joy Evitt, has kindly provided some guidelines for those who would like them, but you can also do your own thing.

It could be a simple message in words or an abstract pattern or a special object - it does not matter, and neither does the colour. It's basically a social statement of the times we live in. If any members have children etc they could do one, too. It would be lovely to have a variety. There are all sorts of possibilities. Just think of Lorina!!!!!
People have already come up with some great ideas and are planning to get stitching.
When we can get together again volunteers will stitch it together so it can go on display at our meetings and other events.
Sewing is recognised as a calming and therapeutic activity – so if you are stressed out, this could be the answer – and why not get other members of the family to join in too?
Completed squares can be sent to Celia Sutton, Orchard House, Blake's Lane, Brundall, Norfolk NR13 5JN (or held until we can meet up).
SEND US PHOTOS OF YOUR WORK, UNDER WAY OR COMPLETE - and we'll post them here, on our Facebook and/or Instagram pages and circulate some of them on e-newsletters. If you have your own Instagram account (they are easy to set up - even I managed it!) you can post them there and 'follow' us on Instagram at ctanorfolk.
You can also upload them to our Facebook page.
Share your projects online
Recently C&TA have been sending e-newsletters to those members who have asked to receive them. As the usual events and exhibitions that we normally tell members about have all been cancelled due to the virus, we thought a way to keep in touch would be to feature our own and members’ projects in newsletters (and on the website and Facebook).
If you are sewing anything we would love to see it or hear about it. If you are researching for a talk, book or essay, or writing a poem or short story that you’d like to share with others or if you’re learning a language or an instrument we’d love to know about that too.
If you have your own Instagram account, just 'follow us' and post your work. Alternatively send your pictures of your work, in progress or completed, with an explanation of what and why, to email@example.com. Any queries? Give her a call on 01603 716115.

Another project for you.... thanks to Jacquie
Jacquie Harvey BEM is known around the world for her quilting designs.
A C&TA member, when she heard about our community Coronaquilt, she told us about her own quilt project, which you can also join.
Jacquie's is a six-month project, in which you make all the squares for yourself.

Try a Lorina Bulwer style combination of applique and text - this image is from the Norfolk Museums Service catalogue.
Above is another sampler from the Norfolk Museums Service catalogue, made by Jessy Lambert, aged 11. It looks as though she started to write the year, 18... and couldn't quite fit it in. We've all been there! You could copy one of the motifs.
Or just keep it simple with words, cross stitch or applique!
