Free Monthly Online Events for C&TA Members
A chance to chat with other members across the world and talk textiles, share ideas and skills.
All are welcome. Whatever textiles turn you on bring along some of your own work, swap ideas, news or photos of a recent exhibition visit.
There's no need to be a maker, just share a passion for fashion and textiles from period dress and vintage to catwalk couture.

Costume Detective Workshop - 'From Loop not Loom'
An investigation into the influence of knitted fabric on fashion. In this workshop session Isobel and Joy will be providing an in depth look into the development, use and diversity of looped or knitted fabrics and their profound influence on fashion over the past century.

'Threads of Connection'
The AGM is followed by a talk from Holly Sandiford, Director and Facilitator at ArtatWork CIC, who will tell us about an inspiring three-year initiative aimed at improving wellbeing through the exploration of Norwich’s rich textile and fashion heritage. Focusing on three key periods—1600 to 1750, 1750 to 1900, and 1900 to the present day—this project engages participants in a creative journey that intertwines history, art, and mental wellbeing.Participants include men and women with mental health challenges or just need a boost to their wellbeing, and adults with learning disabilities. Through practical workshops, such as spinning, weaving, natural dyeing, and museum visits, participants will gain both heritage knowledge and creative skills. A variety of engaging activities, like guided walks, talks, and heritage research methods, will further enhance their connection to local history.

Monday 25th May 2026 The C&TA are delighted to be supporting Gressenhall Farm and Workhouse's Flax and Fleece Project in 2026 and will be with them at their exciting Spring Fling event, where we will be offering craft activities and our wonderful books and cards to buy. A 1920s themed Garden Party in the walled garden of Strangers Hall to celebrate one hundred years+ of its gifting to the City of Norwich.
There will be cocktails (non-alcoholic) and fruity refreshments, period music, a display of period costume and a talk on the social climate of the 1920s, and the emergence of opinion that the history of everyday life should be
preserved and celebrated in special museums.
Members are welcome to come in 1920 style dress but it is not compulsory.
Strangers Hall Museum, Norwich.

A visit to London taking in the Fashion and Textile Museum and the William Morris Gallery
Group entry. Entry tickets and coach travel included in the price.
The Coach will depart from Castle Meadow at 8.00am and will also pick up from B&Q Hall Road at 8.15am. There will be a stop for coffee at Newmarket en route and we shall leave London at 4.30pm.

Dr Isabella Rosner, Curator of Textiles and Contextual Studies Lecturer at the Royal College of Needlework and host of 'Sew What' podcast features some extraordinary historical Norfolk stitchers. She will focus on the people and their textiles, including artist John Craske, social reformer Elizabeth Fry who started a program for female convicts on board ships bound for Australia and New Zealand, Charlotte Waite and young sampler makers.
Isabella Rosner is an art historian who studies material culture from the seventeenth through nineteenth century. She specialises in the study of early modern women’s needlework, especially British examples, and schoolgirl samplers across all time periods

A visit to 'Fabulous Schiaparelli' exhibition at the V&A*
A chance to view this long awaited exhibition of Schiaparelli's legendary contribution to the world of fashion. You will be dropped off and collected from the steps of the V&A.
The Coach will depart from Castle Meadow at 8.00am and will also pick up from B&Q Hall Road at 8.15am. There will be a stop for coffee at Newmarket en route and we shall leave London at 4.30pm.
Members £50, non-members £55 - *This covers coach travel ONLY. Members should book their own tickets for the exhibition and are advised to book from 12 noon onwards in case of delay on route.

A presentation by The History Wardrobe's Meredith Towne and her Mum featuring the fashion associated with this exciting art movement, with a seasonal twist. An amusing way to begin the Christmas season, followed by afternoon tea.
